Description
The chapel was designed by the British Architect William Wilmer Pocock, who’s portfolio includes numerous Wesleyan chapels throughout the south of England.
Having been lovingly restored, the chapel is now divided into two houses. After parking at the front of the building you enter the holiday home via a metal side gate and down a short, gravel path. A vibrant red front door welcomes you into the main reception area. This generous space benefits from the full height of the building, whilst the light filters through the chapel windows, highlighting the tasteful furnishings which have been carefully curated by the current owners. The vaulted ceilings, beautiful leaded windows, carved stonework and original beams remain, link the historical past to what is now a truly unique place to stay.
This elegant holiday home is dog friendly and can comfortably accommodate up to four guests. Upstairs there are two good size bedrooms, both offering a glimpse of the sea and sumptuous king size beds; sharing a family bathroom. The ground floor comprises of a large open plan living space, encompassing a dining area which can seat up to six guests. Adjacent to this is plenty of seating for after dinner coffee or curling up to watch a favourite film. French doors divide the living space from the kitchen which is found at the rear of the property. Fully equipped to enable any aspiring chef to produce a delicious three course meal, or just a simple breakfast for those lazy holiday mornings. The bi-fold doors from the kitchen open on to a tidy garden, which includes a table and chairs, perfect for al fresco dinning on summer evenings or indulging in a hot toddy, when the nights start to draw in.

LOCATION:
There are plenty of attractions to keep all ages entertained long Sandown seafront. The Pier and glorious Sandown Bay are just a short walk down-hill from the property. Voted one of the island’s best beaches, so why not stretch your legs along the miles of golden sand or swim in the cooling water of the English Channel. The nine mile stretch between Yaverland and Shanklin, with Sandown nestled in the middle, demonstrates the wonders of geology, with red sandstone through to the white chalk of Culver Cliff. On a lucky day, the remains of fossils can also be found! If you crave an active holiday, the bay is hugely popular with water sports and you’ll be sure to see people paddle boarding, surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing or catamaran and dingy sailing; weather dependent.
A short walk towards Yaverland, you will also find the Wild Heart Animal Sanctuary, famous for its big cats. The sanctuary, formerly the Isle of Wight Zoo, gained further recognition due to the owners relationship with the naturalist and TV presenter Chris Packman. Additionally, a perfect distraction for the younger guests is Sandham Gardens, which is only minutes’ walk from the esplanade. With karting, sky nets, crazy golf and a dedicated play area on offer there should be plenty to ensure a good night’s sleep at the end of the day!

We had a fabulous time at the light chapel, perfect location to explore the Isle and just a lovely setting. Great to have some outside space for a glass of wine after the kids had gone to bed. 5 star!

The light chapel was easy to find, with off road, drive way parking, and easy convenient self check in. The light chapel is absolutely gorgeous, It is very spacious & the down stairs is pretty much an open plan space. We stayed with our 2x young children (5 & 2)and our big dog, so the open space was ideal, & the patio doors opening from the kitchen into the secure back garden was great for them all to come & go freely without any concerns. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need, with a lovely welcome pack of treats & fresh milk in the fridge. Both bedrooms were beautiful with lovely comfy beds. The beach is a 20 min walk (with a 5yr old), with the pier & plenty of cafe/restaurants to choose from, & by car everything else you might want to do is about a 30 min drive. Apart from needles, which was about 50 mins but well worth the drive. We will definitely return, & I would highly recommend the light chapel to anyone. X

Me & my family spent a wonderful week at the Light Chapel in Sandown, Isle of Wight. Sadly, we didn't get to meet the owners who I believe were away themselves however they'd left us a wonderful welcome goodie basket that was most welcome. The property itself is gorgeous with high ceilings making it feel light & airy with the living spaces & both bedrooms being well proportioned. The chapel was also well supplied with numerous towels, toiletries & cleaning products. In the kitchen you'll find everything you need to make & store your meals, there were also clean Tupperware boxes that we used to take a picnic to the nearby beach - the owners really have thought of everything here. Speaking of the beach, the main Sandown pier is approx 5-10 minute walk from the chapel - we couldn't fault the location. Overall we had a wonderful week at this property & would not hesitate to stay again if/when we return to the island.
On a separate note, I would also recommend The Island Holiday Company who's customer service as nothing short of fantastic (I spoke with Shannon on numerous occasions who was always professional, polite & helpful) I would most certainly book through them again without hesitation. |
